Everybody knows Jamie Foxx from “Any given Sunday” but not until I saw this stand-up session I became aware that this guy is funny. Jamie repertoire includes many imitations of famous celebrities like Clinton, Nixon, Prince and others, most of them black due to the almost all black public that filled the theater. Nevertheless the main course of this evening was the parody of Africa: its smells, people, music and animals. Not bad at all, though sometimes you could feel some repetitiveness on the punch lines. All and all this was a solid black culture show and enjoyable by all.

Many critics reviews would go and keep comparing Sasha Baron Cohen’s latest movie with the previews one, Borat. Of course there are similarities between both pieces, they were both obviously done by the same man, similar structures formed of many hilarious sketches that many said would be more appropriate for youtube and that this is not a real movie. In art there is no “real movie” concept, either you belong to one type of films or you don’t, and this the real point, critics may not have enough drawers to classify some films. Bruno is an amazingly hilarious piece of 7th art. It is always surprising, striking and creative. Sometimes this comes in the form of textual jokes such as when Bruno is asking two stone-heads from a PR company what topics are up today in order to attract camera time, the girls mention Darfur and Bruno asks what’s next Darfur, what’s Darfive?

Sasha got a real pair to get into a ultimate fight championship kind of ring and face a red neck public while french kissing his partner in the film; or when Bruno gets into ultra orthodox Jerusalem neighborhood and had to scape in order not to be beaten up by some angry people. In some other occasion he met what seemed to be a Al Akhsa Bridage Martirs member and asked him who could kidnap him. Later on Sasha would get sued by the target of this interview, some kind of non profit organization worker, and would get real life threats by the real terrorist organization, this worker was supposed to belong to.

As I see it, Sasha targets in his film, first and foremost, the gay community, not leaving any stereotype in place. All of us know most gays are not that provocative, wearing huge platforms and being so effeminate. The second target would be, again, homophobic, making it almost anyone feeling that way, leftists and right wingers, westerns and easterners, Catholics and Jews alike.
I couldn’t help myself of not thinking of Zoolander and of Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends. The first one also focuses on a comedy around the figure of a well known gay hair stylist and the second one, around a weird voyage into the real far left behind America, similar to the one to which the two gay “curators” belong to.

About the rated issue of this movie, again we are facing the same dilemma of rating a movie filled with violence, anti ethical behavior, materialism, those of the kind that can take someone life’s into a highway to hell, if this exist. And in the other part of the balance we have a not more than funny 2 sequences of a guy’s penis dancing, I don’t think anyone could see his libido aroused from these two sequences, even homosexuals. Well we well know the hypocrisy in these rating involved.

It is ok if my kid is filled with hatred and violence from a Schwarzenegger movie, but it is not ok he sees a male of female sexual parts, something that we all posses. I will let psychiatrist deal with this enigma while they cry out “clear” when providing a well earned doses of electricity to the people responsible for these ratings.

A comedy with Samuel L. Jackson and Nicholas Cage cannot go wrong. A respectable African american scholar professor (Jackson) has just arrived to his new summer home at a small town, when, unluckily his mid class white neighbors got it wrong when they saw a black man handling a stereo withing the house that they thought still belonged to the last white owner. They call the police and freelance TV reporters also arrived. In the proximity of local elections for town mayor, police chief wants to cause a good impression in the press and prepares his team to storm the house without any further anaysis of the situation: they almost kill the celebrity. In order to cover the mistake, they cut a deal with a small criminal (Cage) to make as if he was the celeb raptor and the chief comes to save the kidnapping. One mistakes gets to another to the amaze of both professor and kidnapper.

Magnificent soundtrack no doubt. A surreal real psycho story of a not very average individual, FH = Fuck head (Billy Crudup), that’s how they call him. With some known actors, such as Dennis Hooper or Jack Black, the film tells about a guy who fucks everything he touches, not in a sexual way. He just manages to get all wrong even he is not a bad will person. Once day he will know Michelle, and both will deeply fall in love…with each other and with the dope.

FH will end up breaking up with Michelle, after they had decided not to have the baby they were expecting. Michelle would take it with another guy southern, to Mexico. After a period of being apart, FH met an interesting guy, looks like FH is always on the quest for people he can trust and  follow, a kind of urban cowboy also adicted to dope, until both of them, each at his home, take a ride of a polluted “shit” and FH almost doesnt make it, like his cowboy partner. Score: 5.5

Well, here is our stand up comedian and actor from movies like Ray, Collateral or Any Given Sunday. Jamie is a funny fellow, with great imitations, very much already into the main stream of the american comedy, nice looking and athletic, he makes pretty much into the group of african american comedians that made it successfully into Hollywood. At this time, close to the 9 11 attack he will pick on talibans, come up with his experience from his trip to Africa, imitate his most famous brothers and sisters and still put some sex into it as I am acustomed to see from african american stand up comedians. Score: 7

Nothing can hide this title about what is about to happen in this film. A group of mid 30’s guys is out for Las Vegas to celebrate a bachelor party for one of them, getting married soon. Obviously, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, and this guys will go through a tour of crazy deeds during a night they cannot remember a thing about., why? because one of them got the other drugged with some substance that causes amnesia, by mistake. During the night some cary things will happen, from stealing a tiger and place it into their hotel room till gettign married with a stripper,all and all many stereotypes like any movie trying to hit the jackpot selling tickets. But the result is a mediocre comedy that has just some half funny guy in it, that by the way I couldn’t stand 10 minutes watching him as a stand up comedian, that some object he is: Zach Galifianakis.

You Don’t Mess with the Zohan is a good entertainment comedy about american stereotypes about  israelis. Zohan, an israeli elite soldier with a formidable army carrera, is trying to get out from service while he gets another mission. In that he makes himself KIA and finds the perfect oportunity to scape from the israeli system, travel to the states and pursuit his dream of becoming a hair stylist. Already in New York he will find his comrades and his old enemies and will make himself a life by serving in a very special way, at a small neighbour hair saloon. Ultimately, his enemies from the past and the siraelies working in the city, will join forces and fight against the local mafioso and finally winning hte fight. The whole comedy is filled with israeli music, hebrew slang and stereotypes, and the cast includes manyu famous ones like John McEnroe, John Turturro or Kevin James,  Score: 5

Jimmy Carr is one of a kind brilliant, sharp and clever Brittish stand-up comedian.  He’s got some other shows, the one I can relate too is the same recording stand-up comedy evening of year 2005, in which he also exhibited a fantastic way of performing, improvising a lot, just coming up with fantastic ideas “on the fly”, while people would shoot at him from all over with all types of commentaries and questions. Jimmy is specially keen on sex related jokes where extreme scenarios are depicted while he tries to amaze himself by contemplating the degree of ashtonishment he  placed his audience into, observe their reactions, though most of the times it ends with 100 % pure laughing. Score 8.
